Well, for those of you used
to the snazzy design of our reviews, we apologize for this one.
We had so many pictures and so much that was done for this show,
it would have been a lil more than a dilemna to try and save the
format. It will be back though.
First off, Mofoz Visualz would like to thank everyone who made
it out to these events, and everyone who helped out with the promotion
and execution of these events. It could not have been done without
the hard work of the Mofoz team (which has grown quite a bit lately),
DJ Mik One, Killa Kut, Quenetic Storm, and last but not least my
boy Remix (behind the scenes monster), who saved the day a few times.
A shout out to all our sponsors that made
this show a reality-please support these businesses. Motive
807, Champion
Scion of Austin, Red
Stripe, Urban
Timez Magazine, and the San Marcos Scene.
With that being said, we have the reviews
below, as well as many, many, photos in 3 different galleries: Promotional
Party, Graffiti Expo,
and Concert. Enjoy.
If a picture is worth a thousand words then...
PROMOTIONAL PARTY
Thats right, you know the way us Mofoz like
to party, so we had a few promotional gatherings a week before the
show. We had an Electric Mayhem afterparty on Wed. night followed
by a Thursday afternnoon suare at Motive 807. Electric Mayhem, is
the weekly San Marcos DJ set headed up by Word Association members-Chief
and Dj Crown. We decided to have a gathering of like minded Wed.
Night partygoers and let them know more of the upcoming weekends
events. Thank you Red Stripe.

P.S. Drop by Motive
807 with a 21+ ID and have a beer with Fahad (while supplies
last)
CHAMPION SCION GRAFFITI EXPO
The idea of this show was to create a little
unity in our large, thinly spread TX hip hop scene. In doing so,
we aquired the talents of San Antonio artists SHEK, ILLEGO, SUPHER,
CIEN, EEK, and DUO and had them alongside Austin favorite, SLOKE
to create some nice designs on canvas to be raffled off later at
the evening's show.

DJ Mik One, Killa Kut, Quenetic Storm, and
Remix ventured in from Houston to mix, scratch, cut, slice, dice,
once, twice, and thrice on the turntables.
Monster Energy donated drinks for the cause,
and everyone was a little peppier throughout the day as result of
that. Thanks Monster-we needed it.
Mofoz Visualz was also on hand to showase
artwork by Mdiddy, new Mofoz designed shirts, San Marcos Scene magazines,
and some of the coolest shoes you will find in TX from Fahad over
at Motive 807.
Big Thanks to Norm at Champion Scion, and
SHEK for coordinating the Graf show.

The Scion community came out to support the
event as well. A mini car show started in the midst of things. The
promotional Champion vehicle and the XB with lambo doors and air
ride were both crowd favorites; believe that Dustin was right there
to capture it all on camera.

CARIBBEAN LIGHTS: V-Zilla, Word Association,
and Savvi
Finally, the concert was getting started--we
had sound (whew), art, performers, and a crowd. Success no matter
how you cut it. The club was wrapped with all the graffiti pieces
from the day's artists. We also had Mofoz multimedia, Prhymemates'
Clogged Caps 3 (San Antonio graf DVD), and Kinetik Cinematix' Subterranea
(Houston underground DVD) projected on the clubs screens throughout
the night (after the Rockets embarassing loss to Dallas, anyway-next
year guys). Kinetic Cinematix' Kris was also on hand to videotape
the show.
Savvi
hopped on the mic and tore through a set sprinkled with gems from
his debut Hueston Chronicles album. He was later joined on stage
by Equality, and joined in on an acapella that had many in the club
listening intently and nodding approvingly.

Next up on stage was San Marcos' answer to
hip hop in the form of Word
Association. Word Association (to those not familiar) is a collective
of solo artists and groups that come together to support and add
to each others performances and projects. Spread the Word.

Word Association did the thing, had the crowd
moving, had the momentum going and definitely left the stage scorching
for the monster of the H-town underground, V-Zilla. Zilla took the
stage with his man Chico and his crew S.W.A.T. to make sure that
Austin heard him. Zilla's stage show was nice and packed full of
energy that could parallel a five year olds' after a chocolate binge.
Zilla be killin 'em, and this night was no different. Zilla laced
the crowd with hits from Lockdown Sessions, and even dropped some
new songs from his forthcoming CD. His crew SWAT also took the stage
and knocked some listeners ears unconscious with their stellar wordplay.

The nights headliner which was scheduled
to be a freestyle battle, actually morphed into an all out freestyle
cipher that included Zilla, Savvi, Word Association , SWAT, Justin
Bardic, and Metatron. The freestyle session was the icing on the
cake of the weekend's events and was highlighted by GT Garza's freestyle
about the (at the time) very recent Rockets loss.

As the night rounded up , we raffled prizes
including graf from the very talented artists of the day, cd's and
shirts, as well as a "vase with a hole on the side" from
our friends at Puffin Paul's in San Marcos.
Aside from the Rockets loss, a rainy night,
questionable sound at times, and almost a weeks worth of sleep deprivation,
the show was a success and we look forward to putting on more in
the future.

If you missed the show than you missed the
most flawless execution and greatest hip hop ever assembled, and
if someone tells you otherwise, it's because their senses could
not handle the perfect zen which was our show...or we could be lying,
but c'mon, would we lie to you? Be sure to check out all the pics
and spread the word that Mofoz Visualz won't stop. |
