Return of The Golden Era in Houston on Friday the 13th meant underground hip hop in the h-town was turned up a notch...maybe even two.

Fitzgeralds held 20 or so acts of undeniable soul music with a feeling of the old school.

The event which was (somehow) organized by Big Who of the Lucipher Crew and Crazy Tony went off without a hitch.

The acts ranged from DJ's and Emcees (respectively)who spun and spat everything from old school grooves including the Humpty Dance, and the Beverly Hills Cop theme to the experimental sounds of The Studemont Project and the prophetic Sector 7.

Every 15 or so minutes a new act appeared and the night never seemed to slow down. Fly Guy Productions even showed up with a trailer of their upcoming DVD project of the Houston graffiti and b-boy scene. Highlights of the evening came in the form of the Free Agents, a 5 man DJ ensemble, that cut and chopped, spun and mixed a frenzy of sounds.

Lower Life Form also put on a charged set that showed the now attentive audience why they are one of the best acts Houston has to offer.

VG Skillz, who had previously shared some of LLF's stage time, had a chance to showcase another great live performance by tearing through bangers from his latest CD, The Lockdown Sessions.

At the end of the night came Q.U.E. and the Lucipher Crew who came onstage with a live drummer and DJ Remix who kept the beats fresh as Big Who and Q.U.E. delivered swarms of lyrics.

The night was a great success in kickstarting the blossoming Houston underground scene.

The unity of so many talented acts, as well as the number of fans was good to see and gives promise to upcoming events such as this one.
