What's happenin' y'all. For those of y'all who don't know me, my name is Shawn Slaughter a.k.a The Hippo Slaya a.k.a Chickengrease Jones. The mighty M-Dizzle of Mofoz Visualz has summoned me out of idleness,so that I may be blessed enough to give up a review of The Texas All-State Hip Hop Extravaganza and the immense talent it brought to the stage.

As I walked into the club, with my mind fresh off the sting of gettin' a B-day tat, I turned to an MC-DJ collabo to behold. V-Zilla & DJ Comp1 from Houston were doin' it right with a fresh sound. V-Zilla's straightforward "get yo' mind right" flows joined perfectly with the DJ's masterful cuts and production. A few shots and much headnoddin' later, Jusdis & mic.DAGGER took the stage and didn't disappoint the home crowd.

Until then, I didn't know much about the San Antonio Hip Hop scene. I know now that it's about intense lyrical movement set to Quannum-esque beats. They definitely know how to make a crowd move. This was proved by the influx of fans that headed to the Mofoz Visualz table after their set. Ch-ching, makin' the crowd move but not makin' no g's is a no-no. All capitalism aside, the last act was purely scientific. Astronautalis, from Dallas, came through with an interesting twist...emo hip-hop. In my opinion, the crowd kind of slept on this one. Astronautalis' delivery was impeccable. He seemed to have an adaptable flow that could fit on any beat. I couldn't help but think of early Andre from Outkast without the southern drawl mixed with a little bit of that east coast underground flavor

.

All in all, The Texas All-State Hip Hop Extravaganza revitalized my optimism for intelligent and tangible Hip Hop comin' up through the new Texas underground scene. Drunk, not giving a fuck, and hungry at the end of the night, I reminisced of those mind blowing, legendary days of Hip Hop Humpday in Austin chillin' with the M-Dizzle and company. Speaking of, where was Tee-Double? Anyways, hope y'all enjoyed this review and more of you will come to the next event in even greater numbers. Stay tuned for more updates on this power move shit right here..............
