BIG KRIT -Live from the Underground SF

We had a chance to catch one of our favorite musicians in San Francisco about a month back, and happily had our camera in tow. Big K.R.I.T. is the Mississippi bred rapper who has been making a lot of noise lately with his latest release, “Live from the Underground”.

Prior to his latest release, Krit has been heavy in the mixtape game and enjoyed success with popular songs  featuring everyone from Wiz Khalifa to Ludacris. The SF date was part of the first leg of Krit’s national tour, and definitely showed off why the young rapper is catching so much critical acclaim. The musician who is well known to be both a great rapper and producer further showed and entered “trifecta” brilliance with his live show. Krit entertained the masses with a great DJ in Clark Kent, as well as interacted in waves with the crowd, even allowing some in the front row to sing hooks to some of his hits….and get this, no boggled backing vocals on the record , as some rappers seemingly love to use in this day and age. All in all, Krit’s street styled rhymes sonned from Dirty South pioneers such as UGK, and other southern favorites blend tremendously with songs of the underground hip hop life favored by so many hip hop purists to create and form the next big rap superstar…and we are just fine with that.

Shouts out to OG of Luxury Mindz fam who is currently on tour filming a documentary on KRIT, we will be posting the three part documentary in an upcoming blog.

New Photography: BIG BOI in Austin

Big Boi of Outkast performed at the East Side Drive In last week brought by Knuckle Rumbler and Transmission Entertainment.
The show was awesome loca;/regioanl DJ’s Peligrosa started the evening with some great dance/hip hop going on and the got the night en route, after that there was a really horrible rock/rap band from Atlanta that pretty much lost all the crowds interest-dont know there name, but apparently they were co-signed by Big Boi as he had them onstage with him for one of his newest songs.

Cool though, because we used their set time to walk around the venue and chop it up with some friends and such. After that, Big Boi took the stage and crushed opening with a slew of Outkast hits and southernplayalistickcadillacmusic and such. Great show, super loud sounds that had my ears ringing even the next day…then again I was directly in front of a speaker getting these photos for you guys and gals. enjoy.

A long Friday night in the ATX

…started actually way before these pictures were taken..after paying tribute to the late great Pimp C with some friends at Slick Willies, we made our way down to THE FIFTH GALLERY
where we met up with more friends and proceeded to spin a Pimp C tribute music set…twas a 3 DJ mindcrusher that I wish was recorded…anyways, we closed up shop and headed quickly to catch our friends the HOUR BAND who were playing down the street at Lucky Lounge..but instead ran into an art opening at the always awesome Mexic Arte Museum where fellow Fifth Gallery Artist, Lucas Negrete had a piece on display.
I cant recall what the name of the xhibit was but most art were on 12×12 panels and $100 ..i wanna say it benefited something or another but i digress. There were also Nativity scenes on display which were real cool and made it feel all christmassy..heres some pics.

Nativity Scenes and characters made of corn husks…pretty cool ..and made me hungry for tamales.

Awesome artwork..didnt catch the names..we were kind of in a hurry

This piece was silkscreened

We finally made it to Hour Band’s show a little after their set, but we did catch the second set where our good friend Aaron sat in on drums and Phranchyze rapped.

...after that we made our way to the east side to catch Dubb SIcks; CD release party…but by then we should not have been allowed to hold an expensive camera…and didnt…. anyways it looked like the show was hot, lots of good people holding down the local scene on a cold night.

EastSiding on a rainy Friday Night

Rainy Friday nights in Austin usually mean cancelled jam sessions at THE FIFTH GALLERY, and this past one was no exception. We took advantage of a night off to hit the eastside for a few great art and music events–First off we hit up Industry Printing on e.6th and Pedernales for the “Print+ Addiction” show that featured one night only print designs from Austin graffiti writers Mez One and SLOKE.  Big ups to the whole crew at Industry for a great event.

After a few hours chilling with the homies, we rolled down the street a little bit to the INDEPENDENT where “The Cut Up” was being held- This was pretty much an open scratch session for some of Texas’ best turntablists..and they had a Nintendo Wii set up on a huge projection…I rocked on the tennis. heres some flicks.
